The County of Maui Department of Water Supply (DWS) has created a detailed inventory map to help customers find current information about their water service line. This tool shows the department’s commitment to providing safe and top-quality drinking water to the people of Maui and Molokai.
Understanding the Public Inventory Map
The public inventory map, mandated by the U. S. federal guidelines and due by October 16, is now available on the Maui County Department of Water Supply website. To view the map, go to the “lead service line inventory” link.
This resource is DWS’s assessment of the condition of service lines at residential, school, and business premises to establish the type of pipe used to construct the service lines. The service lines have been categorized as:
1. Unknown
2. Non-lead
3. Galvanized requiring replacement
4. Lead
These classifications align with the US Environmental Protection Agency guidelines for drinking water.
Did You Get a Notice in the Mail?
If your property has been identified as having a lead service line, a galvanized service line that requires replacement, or an unknown service line type, you may have received a notice through the mail. No action is needed for properties identified as nonlead, and no notice will be provided.
To this date, DWS has also established no lead service lines in its inventory.
What Happens Next?
The DWS team is also reducing the number of unknown statuses by physically inspecting the service line at the premises by 2025. Nevertheless, due to the current limitations of customer-requested inspections, the department will release press releases informing the public when the crews will work in certain regions.
If the crews cannot get to your meter or figure out what kind of material your service line is made of, you may be contacted by DWS to set up a new appointment. For service lines made of lead or galvanized, DWS will work with homeowners to arrange for replacements and offer advice and information to help homeowners understand the available options.
