If you're relocating to Maui, bringing your pets is often one of the most important (and stressful) parts of the process. Fortunately, with the right planning, you can bring your dog or cat to Maui without quarantine, but Hawaii’s rabies-free status means there are strict import rules to follow.
This guide explains the steps for Direct Airport Release (DAR), which helps your pets skip quarantine and transition to island life stress-free.
To qualify for quarantine-free entry to Maui under Hawaii’s Direct Airport Release (DAR) program, your dog or cat must:

Step 1: Microchip Your Pet
Before anything else, your pet must have a working microchip implanted. This ID is used to verify test results and identity.
Step 2: Complete Two Rabies Vaccinations
Both vaccinations must be current and administered at least 30 days apart. The most recent shot must be over 30 days before arrival.
Step 3: FAVN Blood Test
A FAVN (Fluorescent Antibody Virus Neutralization) test must show rabies antibody levels of at least 0.5 IU/mL. Results must be sent from an approved lab.
You must wait at least 30 days after the blood draw before your pet arrives in Hawaii.
Step 4: Submit All Required Forms

Step 5: Pay Direct Airport Release Fee
Fees must be paid to the Maui Humane Society, which coordinates inspections upon arrival:

Step 6: Book Travel Into OGG (Kahului Airport)
To qualify for DAR, you must arrive at Maui’s airport during designated inspection hours and coordinate with the DAR team in advance.
