The Maui County Water Department is now allowing property owners to purchase a limited number of additional fixture units for their water meters. This is great news for property owners who are near their water fixtures' capacity on their property.
The size of your water dictates how many water fixtures you may have on your property. This is a confusing process, and if you want to expand on that home or build a cottage, you are limited to a finite number of water fixtures. This is based on the size of the water meter installed at your property.
The 5/8 inch meter is the most common for residential property in Maui County. The 5/8 allows for 31 water fixtures for the entire property. Each time you add a “water fixture” like a sink, toilet, or water spigot, your fixture count increases. The County of Maui will ask for your fixture count if you submit for permits, and knowing your fixture count beforehand is key.
As of July 1, the County of Maui allows property owners to raise their fixture counts. Owners can purchase additional fixtures.
The 5/8-inch water meter is allotted 31 fixture units. For $389 per fixture unit, a property owner can purchase up to 8 additional fixture units.
The 3/4-inch water meter is allotted 53 fixture units. For $356 per fixture unit, a property owner can purchase up to 14 additional fixture units.
The 1-inch water meter is allotted 128 fixture units. For $261 per fixture unit, a property owner can purchase up to 32 additional fixture units.
We thank the County of Maui for allowing property owners to purchase additional fixture units. This allows us to expand and develop our properties to their fullest potential.
