Vacation Rental Status
Vacation rentals are currently permitted at Kahana Outrigger. Because the property is in an Apartment-zoned district, it is currently subject to the County’s Bill 9 framework, which schedules the phase-out of transient vacation rentals in West Maui by the end of 2028.
However, there is an important development that could provide a path for vacation rentals at Kahana Outrigger to continue. Maui County has established new H-3 and H-4 Hotel Districts, and Kahana Outrigger has been included in the County’s proposed rezoning process for the new H-3 Hotel District.
The proposed zoning change is not yet final for the property. The rezoning process still needs to move through the County’s required review and approval process. For buyers planning to vacation rent the property, this is an important development to watch. For buyers purchasing as a second home or a Maui getaway, the vacation-rental rules may be less important. The proposed zoning change is an exciting development for Kahana Outrigger.
