An electronic code will be issued to fully vaccinated tourists that will allow them to travel to and within Hawaii.

Travelers and tourists, keep your heads up! Hawaii is opening its pristine islands to those who are fully vaccinated in the next months. A “vaccine passport” is in the works which will let visitors skip Hawaii’s quarantine requirements.

According to Lt. Gov. Josh Green, the program will start with fully vaccinated essential workers within the state and expand to the rest of Hawaiians. By May 1, the program could already include mainland travelers.

This program could not have come at a better time, helping ramp up Hawaii’s tourism by easing requirements to enter and travel within the state through an electronic code. And with spring break in full force, Hawaii is already looking at an influx of tourists but the numbers are still a far cry from pre-pandemic days.

The vaccine passport program is expected to recover Hawaii’s tourist-heavy economy swiftly with the potential to surge by the fall season.

Hawaii presently allows its visitors to forego mandatory quarantine with proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours from a certified testing facility. Airlines such as United Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and American Airlines require travelers to undergo their pre-flight testing program while select Delta and United flights from LAX to Honolulu will allow passengers to register their negative test results within 72 hours of travel through Clear’s Health Pass app. All of these measures can be done to avoid the state’s mandatory 10-day quarantine period.

However, not all islands are onboard with the pre-arrival testing program. Kaua’i is open for tourism but requires visitors to show proof of a negative pre-travel test result and check-in at an approved resort for 3 days. Finally, they will need to take a post-travel test to show they are COVID-free until they can finally roam the rest of the island.

Mortgage interest rates ticked a bit higher in February, but remain below their February 2020 levels. 

New Listings decreased 17.9 percent for Single Family homes but increased 16.1 percent for Condominium homes. Pending Sales increased 62.5 percent for Single Family homes and 76.3 percent for Condominium homes. Inventory decreased 58.6 percent for Single Family homes and 4.0 percent for Condominium homes.
