It's been a long time and a great journey. From working in real estate since the late 80's, named top producing agent for the year in 1993 when the market was in decline, starting and running my own brokerage and management firm in 1995, leading the Los Angeles County Boards of Real Estate in 1996 as President, and then after more than 10 years in the real estate business, I took an early retirement at 32 years of age and went out to see the world.
I traveled extensively throughout South America, learned Spanish fluently, climbed mountains, fished, surfed, learned new customs and cultures, making many friends along the way. From there I settled on Maui in 2001, and really took to the island vibe. While living here, I traveled to the other Hawaiian islands, and other parts of the south pacific, with long stays in Easter Island, Tahiti and Fiji.
It was during my days as boatman and lifeguard on Namotu in Fiji that I was fortunate enough to meet my lovely wife Sarala. With Scotty's help we were married there on the island the following year, and thanks to all the powers that be, our beautiful first baby girl, Yasmina Shanti Vafaie, was born in August of 2004. We decided as a family that the only place to live and work and raise children is in Maui. We feel blessed and fortunate to be here on the Valley Isle. We own a beautiful home in Makawao, my wife teaches yoga and dance, I work with Mark Gilliland and Tamio Iwado at Prudential Iwado Realty, Inc., where we specialize in commercial sales and leasing, property management, and development.
