Helping the kids buy a first home is a time-honored tradition that has become even more significant as home prices rise and incomes flatten. Plus I know a friend who has invested in every city where her kids have gone to college, graduate school, law school and medical school and she now has a portfolio of rental units in college towns that pay her nicely.
